Feliza Casano

Feliza Casano is the editor in chief of Girls in Capes.  She founded the site in 2013 when she realized none of the sites she read addressed all of the things she cared about: geek culture, entertainment, and the representation of women, minorities, and the LGBTQ community.

Her earliest inspiration was Keladry of Mindelan when she read Protector of the Small at age 11, and she is a voracious reader of manga and science fiction.  Right now, she’s amassing volumes of SJ Advanced’s Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma and Twin Star Exorcists, and some of her recent science fiction includes Behind the Throne by K.B. Wagers, S.B. Divya’s novella Runtime, and Nnedi Okorafor’s Nebula Award-winning novella Binti.

She holds a Masters in Publishing from Rosemont College, where her capstone project on Girls in Capes received thesis of distinction, and is an alumna of the University of Toledo’s Communication department.  In her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, she was honored to be a guest on 1370 WSPD’s Eye on Your Weekend and to speak at the first event for the reading series Women Unbound at Sanger Branch Library. She had the great honor of returning to Women Unbound for the first anniversary event and looks forward to joining Way Public Library in Perrysburg, Ohio for its inaugural culture con event in October 2016.

Feliza’s also an officer for Geek Girl Brunch in the Philly branch.  Have you signed up for this awesome gathering of geeky women?  GGB started in NYC, and in 2015 expanded to cities including Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Portland, Dallas, and Chicago.

Follow Feliza on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Goodreads. You can also check out her website, where she blogs about reading books (including the 100 Books challenge), the manga and anime she enjoys, and random commentary that she can’t shove into Girls in Capes.
