Have you ever wanted to meet us in person? Do you love our annual Problematic Favorites issue? Then do we have news for you. Join us along with friends from Black Girl Nerds and Nerds of Prey as we discuss some of our problematic favorites at Flame Con 2016 in Brooklyn!
About the Panel
Some fandoms are reluctant to admit there might be problems in their favorite franchises – but others don’t hold back in their protests. Join us as we explore thinking and writing critically about some of our favorite things.
You can find the “Our Problematic Favorites” panel in Room A at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20.
About the Panelists
Constance Elly is a writer, editor, social media nut, and TV junkie living in NYC. She is the TV Editor for Black Girl Nerds and her other writing has been featured in The Mary Sue, Hello Giggles, The Nerds of Color, Just About Write, and Bitch Flicks, among others. When not writing about the lack of black sitcoms on streaming sites or asking where the black superheroines are on TV, she’s probably tweeting from the Hufflepuff common room at 3 a.m., trying to close at least one of 36 tabs.
- Constance writes more at ConStarWrites.tv. Find her piece on diverse mysteries here at Girls in Capes!

Cameron Glover is a reader, writer, and professional fangirl from NJ. A lover of anime, manga, comics, and S/FF since childhood, she’s passionate about being a critical fan and highlighting the intersections between fandom and identity. You can find her ranting on Twitter (@BlkGirlManifest), reading, or just chatting it up with her cohosts on the podcast, Nerds of Prey (@NerdsOfPreycast).

Allison Racicot is the Audiobook & Podcast Reviewer at Girls in Capes. She spends too much time listening to podcasts, and enjoys reading, writing, comedy, and getting overly attached to fictional characters. If you like tweets that regularly consist of fangirling over Hamilton, comic books, and comedians, you can follow her on Twitter @allisonracicot.
- Allison talks Supernatural as a problematic favorite in not one, but two different Problematic Favorite issues. See what she’s written lately at GiC.

Gabby Taub is the Fantasy Reviewer at Girls In Capes and a graduate of New York University. She’s currently working on her own horror novel, holding down a regular job, and enjoying the self-assigned title as the Captain America aficionado at GIC. Follow her on Twitter @buckbarnze for a lot of yelling about Hamilton, Bucky Barnes, and whatever’s going on with My Chemical Romance right now.
- Gabby had the misfortune of being a Captain America fan in 2016. She’s also called out that nonsense in Age of Ultron. See what she’s written lately at GiC.

The panel will be moderated by Feliza Casano, the founder and editor of Girls in Capes.
Feliza Casano currently edits and writes for all sections of the site. In her approximate 2.3 hours of free time each month, she loves watching anime, reading science fiction, and working on her novels-in-progress. Keep up with her antics at felizacasano.com and follow her on Twitter @FelizaCasano.
- Feliza hard-stopped Sleepy Hollow this year and threw a massive raging fit over Age of Ultron. Find more of her work on GiC here.
