I do have a mild obsession with Image Comics. But in times like these, they are \u2014 in my opinion \u2014 one of the only ones in the industry that are consistently publishing material that is inclusive, and that manages to address current social issues without compromising entertainment and art. Money, the oldest language known to man. If you\u2019re looking for a good detective story, <em>The Black Monday Murders<\/em> might just be the right series for you. Hickman and Coker mix neo-noir with magic in this tale of murder and horror, where history is rewritten, where lies become truth, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9781534300279?aff=girlsincapes\" target=\"_blank\">Indiebound<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GY7522.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5775\" src=\"http:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GY7522-198x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GY7522-198x300.jpg 198w, https:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GY7522.jpg 392w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 198px) 100vw, 198px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Black Science<\/em><\/strong><strong>, Vol. 4: Godworld<\/strong> (Rick Remender\/Matteo Scalera, Image Comics)<\/p>\n<p>While I love the entire series of <em>Black Science<\/em>, there\u2019s a particular beauty in Godworld, as the story takes the reader for a journey to the very depths of a tortured mind. As Moreno Dinisio joins the team, it seems that the graphic artists took it up a notch and pushed the boundaries in this volume. On top of that, she struggles a monster of tremendous power that lives within, making both girl and monster targets of both sides of a never-ending war. The artwork is absolutely stunning, mixing steampunk and art deco in a most beautiful manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9781632157096?aff=girlsincapes\" target=\"_blank\">Indiebound<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/mockingbird-marvel-comics-ask-me-about-my-feminist-agenda-depepi.com-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5777\" src=\"http:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/mockingbird-marvel-comics-ask-me-about-my-feminist-agenda-depepi.com-1-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/mockingbird-marvel-comics-ask-me-about-my-feminist-agenda-depepi.com-1-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/girlsincapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/mockingbird-marvel-comics-ask-me-about-my-feminist-agenda-depepi.com-1.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mockingbird<\/em><\/strong><strong> #1-8<\/strong> (Chelsea Cain\/Kate Niemczyk, Marvel)<\/p>\n<p>There not much to say about <em>Mockingbird<\/em>, only that it\u2019s <strong>perfection<\/strong> and that it\u2019s a crying shame that it was cancelled. Cain\u2019s work is the first stand-alone Mockingbird series, and Bobbi Morse has never been more kickass. Issues #1 through #5 are structured as a puzzle box, while Issues #6 through #8 are set on a nerd cruise. Vaughan\/Cliff Chiang\/Matt Wilson, Image Comics)<\/p>\n<p>From the writer of <em>Saga<\/em> and <em>Y: The Last Man<\/em> come another hit series: <em>Paper Girls<\/em>. With an all-girl character line-up, it has been compared multiple times with the Netflix TV show <em>Stranger Things<\/em>, due to its nostalgia-ridden setting and its science fiction plot line. After much excitement during volumes 1 and 2, Homecoming finally introduces Roberta \u201cBerta\u201d Tubb, a war hero and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/blacknerdproblems.com\/advance-review-southern-bastards-14\/\">Black woman in Alabama<\/a><\/strong>. Homecoming is a very plot-heavy story arc, and leaves the readers yearning for the moment Coach Boss meets the other Tubb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9781632156105?aff=girlsincapes\" target=\"_blank\">Indiebound<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><b>Katherine Elisa Ruiz-D\u00edaz<\/b> is a Graphic Novel Reviewer at <i>Girls in Capes<\/i> from Puerto Rico.
